While most of the schools the South Florida Bulls play have generations of football fans, the Bulls do not just yer. Located in Tampa, Florida, the school did not have a program until 1997. In fact, the team's first meeting with its first head coach, Jim Leavitt, took place under a shade tree because they did not have a football facility on campus. The Bulls moved up the ladder to the I-A level. They remained an independent school for a couple of years before joining Conference-USA in 2003. That conference affiliation only lasted two seasons(2003 and 2004) because, in 2005, they joined the Big East.
Over this time frame, the Bulls have put together some memorable teams with a number of noteworthy players. Nate Allen, Nigel Harris, and Jason Pierre-Paul are just a few of the NFL-caliber players who wore a Bulls uniform before going on to a play at the professional level.
